Take Me Dancing

Ianto watched Jack on the dance floor, his eyes manic as he moved to the music.

"Take me dancing, Ianto," he'd asked. "Please. Take me some place with life." Ianto, who would never forget the whale's last moments, understood. He knew this place, had taken Lisa to this place once upon a time, and he didn't know many others. But he knew he could dance with Jack here, and no one would blink or care.

The music was good - mostly fast and hard, with some slow to mix it up, and Jack knew how to dance. He felt good in Ianto's arms, letting him lead during the slow songs and tossing his head around like he was drunk on the music to the fast ones. Eventually, he wore Ianto out. His suit soaked with sweat, Ianto claimed a table and a bottle of beer and just watched.

Jack moved from partner to partner, dancing almost frantically, but gracefully - Ianto could not take his eyes off of him. He wore out men and women, magazine pretty girls and ordinary blokes alike, his brilliant smile reeling them in before they staggered back to the bar or table. He even danced a time or two with guys who came in with ladies. He let no one else lead, though. That was only for Ianto. Ianto smiled around his beer. No one could resist his Jack.

And Jack was his, in a way that didn't mean fidelity or a lifetime - who could talk about lifetimes for them? Eventually, he'd take Jack home (or Jack would take him, since Jack was only drinking water, while Ianto was on his third beer) and they'd find another way to reaffirm life in a universe where an innocent creature could suffer like that. Meanwhile, he put his beer down and claimed Jack from the blond woman on the dance floor.
